“Black Gold” Achieves Groundbreaking Breakthrough! Global Debut

Yesterday (11th), China independently developed T1200-grade ultra-high strength carbon fiber made its global debut. This breakthrough fills a gap in the relevant global field and marks a significant leap for China in the production of ultra-high strength carbon fiber. As a preferred material for fields like aerospace and aviation, carbon fiber can be described as “combining rigidity and flexibility.” It possesses the “flexibility” of fiber; although as thin as a hair, it is harder than steel. Furthermore, carbon fiber has strong high-temperature and corrosion resistance, earning it titles such as “black gold,” “king of new materials,” and “super surface material.”

The T1200-grade ultra-high strength carbon fiber launched this time was independently developed by China National Building Material Group. What’s noteworthy is that it is not just a laboratory sample, but an industrial product already capable of 100-tonne production. This also makes China the first country in the world to achieve 100-tonne production of this grade of carbon fiber. In the field of carbon fiber, the number following the “T” directly corresponds to the tensile strength level; the higher the number, the more advanced the performance. Simply put, the diameter of T1200-grade carbon fiber is less than one-tenth the thickness of a human hair, yet its tensile strength is ten times that of ordinary steel, while its density is only one-quarter that of steel, highlighting its characteristics of being lightweight yet tough.

High-performance carbon fiber serves as the “lifeblood” and pioneer for countries worldwide to develop high technology, national defense technology, and transform traditional industries. It is one of the main development directions within China’s strategic emerging industries.

As a preferred material for fields such as aerospace and aviation, carbon fiber truly “combines rigidity and flexibility,” possessing the “softness” of fiber, yet being harder than steel despite being as thin as a hair. Moreover, its strong resistance to high temperatures and corrosion leads to its nicknames: “black gold,” “king of new materials,” and “super surface material.” Today, this material is moving out of laboratories and becoming an indispensable “core framework” for national strategic industries such as aerospace, national defense, new energy, and high-end equipment. This breakthrough makes China the first country in the world to achieve 100-tonne production of this grade of carbon fiber, providing a solid material foundation for the high-quality development of high-end manufacturing.
