身の回りにある「ブラックゴールド」:カーボンファイバーが、自転車、釣り竿、スーツケースを静かに変えつつある

The high-performance carbon fiber, often hailed as “black gold,” is rapidly moving from aerospace and military applications into the mainstream consumer market.

In the sporting goods sector, carbon fiber is no longer a rarity. High-performance carbon fiber bicycle frames are lightweight yet robust, with total bike weights kept under 7 kilograms—light enough to lift with one hand. Their superior acceleration and handling far outperform traditional aluminum alloy frames, making them a top choice among cycling enthusiasts. In fishing, carbon fiber rods, known for their low weight and excellent flexibility, are gradually replacing older fiberglass models, significantly reducing the strain of long hours of angling.

Beyond sports equipment, carbon fiber is also quietly penetrating everyday travel items. In recent years, luggage made from carbon fiber has frequently appeared in supermarkets and on e commerce platforms. Compared to standard poly-carbonate cases, carbon fiber suitcases weigh nearly 40% less while offering vastly improved impact resistance. This combination of portability and durability has drawn particular attention from frequent business travelers.

Driven by policy support, China’s carbon fiber production capacity accounted for 52.5% of the global total in 2025, up from roughly 17.3%—a marked acceleration in domestic industrialization. As policies continue to favor technological breakthroughs, application expansion, and supply chain security, this “black gold” is shining even more brightly in the market, fueled by policy impetus.

From badminton rackets and backpack frames to phone cases, carbon fiber is subtly reshaping everyday experiences through its lightweight properties. With domestic production capacity steadily growing, more and more people will soon encounter this “black gold” in their daily lives.
